Synopsis: Pillion follows Colin (Harry Melling), a shy, directionless young man whose life is upended when Ray (Alexander SkarsgΓ₯rd), the enigmatic leader of a biker gang, takes him on as his submissive. As their BDSM relationship deepens, Colin is forced to navigate questions of identity, desire and self-discovery he'd never previously confronted.

Review: Harry Lighton's feature debut, adapted from Adam Mars-Jones's novel Box Hill, is a superbly erotic and consistently touching study of loneliness and sexual awakening. Harry Melling's Colin, a timid young man swept into a BDSM relationship with Alexander SkarsgΓ₯rd's enigmatic biker Ray, is a performance of real tenderness, and the two leads share a chemistry that is nothing short of outstanding, both in the film's frank physicality and its quieter, more vulnerable exchanges. Lighton navigates the problematic power dynamics of Colin and Ray's relationship with unusual care, never losing sight of the humanity beneath the leather and ritual. It's a film unafraid of explicitness, yet never gratuitous with it, finding genuine warmth and self-discovery within a subculture rarely afforded such sincerity on screen. A remarkably assured, big-hearted debut.
