Synopsis: From the directors of Talk to Me, Bring Her Back is a supernatural psychological horror film that follows two orphaned step-siblings, Andy (Billy Barratt) and Piper (Sora Wong). They are placed in the care of a seemingly kind foster mother (Sally Hawkins) who, unbeknownst to them, has a terrifying ritual in mind that will thrust them into a world of occult horrors and raw emotion.
Review: Bring Her Back succeeds on multiple levels. It delivers powerful, visceral imagery but also anchors itself in sincere storytelling that keeps you emotionally invested. The film's depressive tone, which deals intimately with death and loss, may be too intense for some. However, the performances are stellar, with Sally Hawkins, Billy Barratt and Sora Wong serving as the emotional anchor. They convey the raw, palpable emotions that encourage sympathy for these human characters, even when you question their decisions. Much like Talk to Me, the Philippou brothers use the strength of these performances to ground a bombastic spiritual plot. This transforms the film into a powerful and genuinely moving exploration of grief and the lengths people will go to deal with despair.
