Review: Ali Abbasi's The Apprentice is a stylish attempt to dissect the origins of one of the most polarising figures in modern history. The film captures the excess of 1970s New York, creating a visually captivating backdrop for this controversial figure's rise to prominence. Jeremy Strong delivers a brilliant performance as Roy Cohn, the infamous American lawyer.  He embodies Cohn's cunning and ruthlessness with precise rigour, offering a glimpse into the dark heart of American politics from the era.  Strong's performance is the film's undeniable highlight. However, The Apprentice ultimately feels like a superficial exploration of its subject. The film often relies on familiar biographical tropes, presenting a series of events and encounters that feel more like a highlight reel than a nuanced character study. While the film touches upon the businessman's questionable dealings and moral compromises, it fails to delve deep enough into the psychological complexities that drive his ambition.
