Review:
Alien: Romulus is a visually impressive attempt to reignite the iconic Alien franchise. The film's dark, gritty aesthetic and solid xenomorph design effectively capture the series' signature terror. However, the narrative falls short of its predecessors. The predictable plot and underdeveloped characters fail to create a compelling emotional journey. David Jonsson and Cailee Spaeny stand out with strong performances, but the rest of the cast is largely forgettable. While the titular alien is visually striking, it lacks the intimidating presence of its iconic counterparts. Further still, both alien and human feel like archetypes rather than fully realised individuals, making it difficult to invest in their fates. The film's reliance on familiar tropes and its inability to deliver a truly original story ultimately prove to be its downfall. Ultimately, Alien: Romulus is a missed opportunity. It showcases impressive visuals and creature design, but fails to deliver a compelling narrative or memorable characters.
