Synopsis:  Kathy (Jodie Comer), the wife of a charismatic biker named Benny (Austin Butler), recounts the rise and fall of the Vandals motorcycle club in 1960s Midwestern America. As the club evolves from a tight-knit group of outsiders into a more dangerous and volatile gang under the leadership of Johnny (Tom Hardy), Kathy finds herself caught in the middle of their internal struggles and escalating conflicts.

Review: The Bikeriders’ strength lies in its immersive storytelling, evocative characters and the chemistry of its actors. Jodie Comer is brilliant as Kathy, her narration weaving together flashbacks that give the a sense of intimate storytelling. The film’s supporting cast is equally impressive, with Austin Butler exuding effortless charisma as the charismatic Benny and Tom Hardy delivering a brooding intensity as the increasingly volatile Johnny. The film owes a debt to the storytelling style of early Martin Scorsese, with its kinetic energy and focus on the internal dynamics of a tight-knit group. Like Scorsese’s films, too, The Bikeriders demand the audience engage with an infamous American cultural icon in a personal way. Relying on this spectatorship, director Jeff Nicols crafts not an action film, per se, but rather a nuanced character study that uses violence to emphasise its universal themes: loyalty, respect and losing one’s identity in a time of change.
