Review: Tรกr is a haunting film that weaves a delicate tapestry of powerful themes such as power, trauma, and redemption. Anchored by a tour-de-force performance by Cate Blanchett, the film is a slow-burning character study that explores the nuances of the human condition against the backdrop of the classical music world. Director Todd Field masterfully blends realism with a touch of magical theatricality, creating an eerie atmosphere that heightens drama. The film's sound and music are also masterfully used to further emphasise the themes and meandering sense of narrative, lending a sense of both literal and spiritual performance. Utilising all of these sensory elements makes even the most mundane, urban settings feel transformative. Indeed, the scenes in Tรกr unfold in a way that creates a ghostly, otherworldly sensation. While the pacing can feel ponderous at times, the powerful emotional arc of the film is captivating enough to hold one's interest throughout.
