Jimmy Savile: A British Horror Story - πŸ’₯πŸ’₯πŸ’₯

Release Date: 6th April 2022
Hot Rating: πŸ’₯πŸ’₯πŸ’₯

While essential viewing for those unfamiliar with Jimmy Savile's crimes, this new documentary still lacks a tight structure. Two 90-minute episodes focus mainly on Savile's story; a bold choice that implies that Netflix are aiming for a non-British audience with this release. Savile's crimes should undoubtedly be made public, however, I think this is a slightly misguided approach since it ignores the wider corporate forces that facilitated his crimes. By comparison, victims' stories seem disproportionately small. Even though lots of effort is put into portraying Savile as a 'tricky' conman, the interviews with his producers and biographer still seem like a get-out-of-jail free card for those closest to the presenter. These sources do, however, allude to the notion that if everyone was suspicious of this man, are we not all responsible for his actions? This is, perhaps, a larger question that may be dealt with more thoroughly in the future.
