Films of American injustice and, particularly, government corruption post-9/11 have been rife over the past decade. With a focus on torture, trials and im The Mauritanian is no different. It follows the turbulent life of Mohamedu Ould Slahi, whose wrongful imprisonment and violent interrogation in Guantanemo Bay continued for fourteen years before his eventual release in 2016. No strange to adapting real life stories to the big screen, director Kevin Macdonald does a solid job of bringing this story to life and unearthing the incramental details that Slahi's prosecution defense attorney (Benedict Cumberbatch and Jodie Foster) discover across a period of years. Any sensational qualities that occur in the hollywood actors performances is nulified by leading man Tahar Rahim, who excels in his sincere performance of Slahi. Like an anchor, he ensures that our sympathies remain dedicated to Slahi's everlong fight for freedom.
