Project Power is a mixed bag of exciting visuals and haphazard storytelling. The film is a melting pot of genres, from the action of a superhero movie to the gritty settings of a detective thriller. Jamie Foxx is the lone soldier, Art, who is in pursuit of a dangerous drug that offers momentary superpowers to those who take it. Along the way he recruits a sidekick in the quick-witted local Robin, played brilliantly by rising star Dominique Fishback. The political undertones distinguish the drama, yet the often allegorical approach to America's war on drugs is not perhaps as refined as it may have you believe. With that being said, there remains a lot of fun to be had with the film's action scenes and neat world-building, all of which make Project Power an enjoyable if not somewhat forgettable counterpoint to the recent boom in superhero blockbusters.
