Parasite - 💥💥💥💥💥

Director: Bong Joon-Ho
Writer: Bong Joon-Ho and Han Jin-Won
Release Date: 7th February 2020
Hot Rating: 💥💥💥💥💥

Bong Joon-Ho is interested in how humans interact with nature; how we create rigid power systems, as in Snowpiercer (2013); how we exploit those creatures that populate earth itself (The Host, 2006; Okja, 2017). Perhaps what makes his latest work so staggering is that it is firmly positioned within today's society. Once Ki-Woo (Choi Woo Shik) becomes an English tutor for the wealthy Park family, the snowball effect is in full swing; each member of his family member follows the next in infiltrating the household with different jobs. Yet the Park family are equally exposed as ignorant to the needs of those outside their extravagant glass home. Poised camera work and efficient montages continue the increasingly catastrophic events toward a conclusion that is inexpressibly shocking. With Parasite, Joon-Ho enacts a microcosm of those global struggles of class, ecology and wealth by refusing to dilute these often parasitic aspects of humanity.
