From its provocative title to its binge-worthy, three-episode structure, Don't F**k with Cats may at first advertise a cheap-thrill experience for real-life crime and horror voyeurs alike. These promises are often exceeded and challenged throughout what is undoubtedly a difficult watch but remains a deeply relevant documentary for today's multi-modal means of communication. Whilst the episodic story of an investigation into a cat murderer highlights contemporary issues concerning the accessibility of personal data and information on the internet, it also inspects the vanity of those who partake in this social media experience. Told through web pages and screenshots, its a story that is as virtual as its crimes move to be human and distressing. Whilst these visuals are perhaps a bit cliche and dissociative from this crime, the larger issue is that when these violent events escalate, the assessment is scattered and supposed commemoration of the victims become disingenuous.
