Writers Chris Morgan and Gary Scott Thompson create a new alleyway of high-octane action for devoted fans of the Fast & Furious series where, this time around, the drama follows agents Hobbs (Dwayne Johnson) and Shaw (Jason Statham). Their paths come into contact in the search for a missing virus which, little known to them, is being carried by Shaw's sister, Hattie (Vanessa Kirby), who acquired the toxins in an attempt to get away from villain, Brixton (Idris Elba). The companions try to navigate away from Brixton's grasp and even end up in Hobbs' homeland of Samoa in order to patch up family ties. It is manic and, whilst the chemistry of the male leads prevails with boneheaded banter, Kirby's character feels as if its been recycled from her previous outing in Mission Impossible: Fallout. Although these revisions in action and wit suffice, the film leaves a lot to be desired.
