Radiohead frontman, Thom Yorke, and American director, Paul Thomas Anderson, have teamed up once again after their previous work on Radiohead's 'Daydreaming' video. This time around, however, audiences are granted to a full 'one-reeler', a mini album that is performed by Yorke and choreographed in a dystopian landscape which features the singer himself. The disorientating sonic palette that Yorke is drawing from channels a lot of his own solo work, which uses soft strings and electronic cuts to create a paradox of traditional orchestra and futuristic landscapes. The familiarity of Yorke's soundtrack is nicely elevated by Anderson's direction, which takes innovative turns into theatre and musical performance. In particular, the director succeeds to fixate audiences on each element that contributes to Yorke's vision. While the singer is the main protagonist in this quaint story, the artistic fusion between Yorke and Anderson is what advances this story into exciting new territory.
