Sorry to Bother You - 💥💥💥

Director: Boots Riley
Writer: Boots Riley
Release Date: 7th December 2018
Hot Rating: 💥💥💥

Boots Riley's debut is a frantic exploration into the political climate of modern-day America. What begins as a comedy centred around the mundane life of lead 'Cassius Green' (Lakeith Stanfield), spirals into a bonkers satire on everything from social media to Capitalism. The rich themes are echoed in densely populated frames, which are meticulously choreographed to give a sense of the chaos of Cassius' life. Similarly, Riley's unrelenting humour will have even the most pensive viewer squirming in their seat. By the third act, however, the film begins wheezing in a cloud of its own provocative smoke, as the introduction of eccentric CEO Steve Lift (Armie Hammer) triggers several crazy plot twists. While Riley is continually focused in making us wince at the absurdity of his world, the same direction is not present by the conclusion, which leaves us clinging to loose ends that the film so playfully set up.
