In dealing with the sensitive subject matter that 'Operation Finale' tackles, among these topics including the Holocaust and the effects of World War II, director Chris Weitz is largely successful in providing an honest and moving film. The events leading up to the eventual trial of Nazi officer Adolph Eichmann establish a world where the trauma of the war still hangs heavy, and ideological differences are rife. This conflict-ridden environment is contrasted against the equity of the Israeli secret agents sought with the task of capturing Eichmann, from which the stand-out performances somewhat expectedly come from Oscar Isaac (Peter Malkin) and MΓ©lanie Laurent (Hanna Elian). While these characters often work as a moralistic muse to one another, the film is frequently sidetracked with distracting moments of romance or humour. As a whole, these instances undermine the film's drama, and too often separate audiences from the true awfulness of Eichmann's beauocracy.
