While 'A Star is Born' sees Bradley Cooper working with a well-worn story for his first outing as director, the film remains a dynamic journey of love, music and fame. Leads Lady Gaga ('Ally') and Bradley Cooper ('Jackson Waite') give convincing portrayals of two musicians bound by their craft as well as their love for one another. Cooper establishes this narrative trifecta with great delicacy, and directs the live music performances with such passion that they become synonymous with the relationship between Ally and Jackson. As such, the problems that the couple encounter are underpinned by songs that reflect the emotional angst of our characters. The film also appears visually vibrant thanks to cinematographer Matthew Libatique ('Black Swan', 'The Fountain'). In delivering such an epic and heartfelt story, so does Bradley Cooper continue to establish himself as a superstar both in front and now behind the camera. A must see.
