Director: Greg Berlanti
Writers: Elizabeth Berger, Isaac Aptaker (screenplay) and Becky Albertalli (based on the novel by)
Release Date: 6th April 2018
Hot Rating: 💥💥💥💥
The past year has seen LGBT cinema begin to receive the attention it rightly deserves. More specifically, a Hollywood produced drama such as 'Love, Simon', which tells the story of a teen coming to terms with his homosexuality is now met with widespread acclaim and box office success. The film's production success is complemented by its no-nonsense storytelling. Unlike its indie cinema contemporaries, 'Love, Simon' is a more character-driven story, filled with plenty of charming characters, including our protagonist 'Simon' (Nick Robinson). In turn, the touching performances are at the forefront at the expense of the film's aesthetics, a choice could have proven the Achilles heel of the narrative if the cast had not gelled so brilliantly. However, much to the delight of audiences, each sincere performance resonates alongside the movement of the plot, a balance that results in a conclusion that is as heartwarming as it is emotionally satisfying.
