Hot Rating: 💥💥💥
'Loving Vincent' gained a lot of critical interest for its diverse creation. In a fitting homage to the Dutch artist it is based on, Vincent Van Gogh, it is formed entirely by paintings. As one may expect, this astonishing feat makes for a visually pleasing film. The stunning mosaics provide an aesthetic reflection of the intimate relationships formed by lead, Armand Roulin (Douglas Booth), as he goes on a search to find out why exactly Vang Gogh committed suicide. From the present adventures, so are the film's monochromatic flashbacks purposeful for tracking the narrative. However, 'Loving Vincent' not without its missteps. The repetitive nature of its detective narrative underwhelms the visuals and thus loses our attention in the process. While the anecdotes encountered by Roulin provide interesting insights into Van Gogh's struggles, these tales are pinned with a type of nostalgic melodrama, further preventing the film from consolidating its artistry.
