'Kodachrome' is a road trip dramedy telling of the estranged relationship between photographer Ben (Ed Harris) and his son Matt (Jason Sudeikis). This broken family bond is innovated by the presence of Ben’s nurse and assistant, Zoe (Elizabeth Olsen). Olsen is a muse to the two male characters of the film, at times providing peace from the nasty dialogue between Ben and Matt. Unfortunately, such serenity does not translate into her chemistry with the two characters, which is skewed by their vulgar dialogue and apathetic acting. Of the latter, Sudeikis unconvincingly portrays his romantic interest in Zoe, a feature which is tentatively amended by some conversations relating to the film’s sub-theme of music. Nonetheless, these misfires are made up by the chemistry shared between Sudeikis and Ed Harris, whose slow-burning friendship is wound into the film’s emotional conclusion. Despite the occasional mediocrity, 'Kodachrome' remains a generally enjoyable experience for audiences.
