In 'The Post', Steven Spielberg returns with another secure piece of cinema. By these connotations of safety, I am suggesting that 'The Post' is not a groundbreaking film, nor one that is enormously intense in its execution. The difference, however, between Spielberg's latest biopic and fellow dramas of the recent, is that it is not reliant upon these features for success. In just under two hours, 'The Post' efficiently provides the details of its narrative; the story of Kay Graham's publication of the infamous Pentagon Papers in 'The Washington Post' during a pre-Watergate America. This state of surveillance is masterfully echoed in Janusz Kaminski's camera work. During current remarks of scandal and political concealment, 'The Post' sheds light on the importance of the free press in a democratic society, echoing the message with refined acting from its two leads played by Tom Hanks (Ben Bradlee), and Meryl Streep (Kay Graham).
