'Star Wars: The Last Jedi' - 💥💥

Director: Rian Johnson
Writer: Rian Johnson (based on characters created by George Lucas)
Release Date: 15th December 2017
Hot Rating: 💥💥

By comparison to the franchise's two cinematic resurgences, 'The Last Jedi' feels somewhat lost. While the once gritty auteur, Rian Johnson, strikes all the right visual cues with his take on the sci-fi saga, providing new creatures and landscapes alike, less can be said for the characters themselves. Any hopes of a clear protagonist are disguised by a tendency to move swiftly between plot and sub-plot, in particular, the farcical inclusion of the codebreaker narrative. If the moral misgivings of a wasted Benicio Del Toro cameo aren't enough to dishearten viewers, I am confident the sight of Mark Hamill drinking the milk of a Bantha will confirm the comic shortcomings of the film. All-in-all, a stylish, yet ultimately shallow return to the big screen for the franchise, thus placing an even greater expectation upon this years later release of the Han Solo prequel: 'Solo: A Star Wars Story'.
