In the directorial debut of Aaron Sorkin ('The Social Network'), it is reassuring to see him also remain in his more familiar role as screenwriter. In 'Molly's Game', he executes both resposibilities with style. Despite its nearly two-hour-plus running time, Sorkin navigates the sizeable autobiography of Molly Bloom, the quick-witted poker boss to Hollywood's big names, with ease. In such efficiency is audience engagement ensured throughout. Admittedly, the scenes of lesser dialogue appear void of their relevance, yet this is a minor flaw when pitted against the mastery of Jessica Chastain (Molly) and the ever-stylish Idris Elba (her lawyer, Charlie Jaffey). The former of the two, Chastain, succeeds in her confident demeanour, to which I imagine will warrant her an Academy Award nomination next week. In a feeling of intrigue comparable to the players at Bloom's table, so does Sorkin's debut ensure that all eyes are on his next move.
