Of recent horror outings, rarely has a film received as much hype as Andy Muschietti's adaptation of Stephen King's classic horror novel, 'IT'. For much of the film's eerie two-hour running time, it succeeds in providing thrills and (sometimes gory) spills. Benjamin Wallfisch keeps ears-a-ready with a chilling soundtrack, exacerbating the intensity of the kid's individual experiences. In its youthful cast, however, starring Stranger Things resident Finn Wolfhard, the film exhausts its greatest asset. There are only so many crude jokes and character archetypes that can be tossed around before interest runs dry. It is in Pennywise (Bill Skarsgard) that this humour is sometimes misplaced, his violence turning somewhat into a caricature of body-shock horror come the end. For the most, however, such violence and horror keeps audiences poised for the clown's next move, of which is equally reflected in my anticipation for the film's 2019 sequel 'IT: Chapter Two'.
