From acclaimed director Luca Guadagino, director of the ravishing 2015 drama, 'A Bigger Splash', comes 'Call Me by your Name'. The film dazzles with the electric on-screen chemistry between love-smitten duo Oliver (Armie Hammer) and Elio (played by the breakthrough star, Timothee Chalamet). Much like the intense heat of the film's Italian sun, the blossoming homoerotic romance between these two men is as temporary as it is beautiful. The film's stylish costume design (Giulia Piersanti) serves as an aesthetic counterpart to this progressing romance, to which symbols such as the swimsuit and the cotton shirt ("billowy") exacerbate the film's eroticism. While the low-budget and small press release might dwarf the film alongside its fellow Oscar competitors 'The Shape of Water' and 'Three Billboards outside of Ebbing, Missouri', I am confident it will get nods for its two brilliant acting performances, as well as James Ivory's adapted screenplay.
