Synopsis: Following a drug deal gone wrong, Hardy’s character navigates a treacherous underworld, battling various factions in a fight for survival.
Review: Gareth Evans’ Havoc attempts to replicate the kinetic, violent action of his acclaimed The Raid films and Gangs of London, yet ultimately falls short. While Evans is known for fluid, bone-breaking choreography, Havoc's action sequences often feel visually muddy and indistinct, leading to a desensitising experience rather than impactful chaos. This plays out in one particularly repetitive (and predictable) night club fight sequence, where the monotony of violence is emphasised through the disposable deaths of gang members. Tom Hardy’s portrayal of the protagonist, intended as a rugged, guilt-ridden anti-hero, comes across as too cold and bland, failing to elicit empathy despite his character's plight. This lack of connection to the lead, combined with the unclear visual execution of the frenetic violence, is likely to leave viewers disengaged here. Despite a trim runtime, the film ultimately runs out of ideas, resulting in a brooding story that feels emotionally and visually disconnected.
