Synopsis: Set in the frantic 90 minutes leading up to the inaugural broadcast of NBC's Saturday Night (later Saturday Night Live), the film chronicles the behind-the-scenes chaos. Creator Lorne Michaels (Gabriel LaBelle) navigates network skepticism and a volatile ensemble including John Belushi (Matt Wood), Dan Aykroyd (Dylan O'Brien) and Gilda Radner (Ella Hunt), as they attempt to pull off a live comedy show that would change television forever.

Review: Saturday Night leverages wonderfully chaotic cinematography and editing to capture the frenetic energy of early Saturday Night Live, often adopting a "fly on the wall" presence. However, while largely entertaining, it ultimately feels like a meandering and somewhat revisionist piece of history. The heavy focus on behind-the-scenes drama frequently overshadows the show's comedic construction, failing to truly convey why it became such a phenomenon. It recreates the atmosphere but misses the elusive, lightning-in-a-bottle talent that defined those formative years. For viewers not steeped in SNL's legacy, the film struggles to convince of its artistic weight. It rides on an expectation that audiences are already on board, appreciating the comedians individually. This directorial nonchalance, asking viewers to simply embrace it as a chaotic drama separate from its real-life context, regrettably doesn't provide a compelling sense of why the show became so great, leaning on a nostalgic haze rather than substantive insight.
