Synopsis: Based on the hit Broadway musical, Wicked explores the untold story of the Witches of Oz.  The film follows Elphaba (Cynthia Erivo) and Galinda (Ariana Grande) — once friends — as they navigate the challenges of Shiz University and the complexities of Ozian politics.

Review: Wicked is an enchanting adaptation that brings the stage production to life with dazzling spectacle, proving its story was destined for the big screen. The film brilliantly conveys the world of Oz and Shiz University, which are colourfully portrayed with a tasteful blend of CGI and practical effects. The choreography deserves recognition here too, allowing characters to explore the corners and forests of this world through dynamic movement. However, the greatest acclaim is reserved for Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo, who command the screen with the undeniable chemistry they share. Their vocal performances bring life to Glinda and Elphaba, respectively, as they put their own mark on these already iconic songs. While Wicked may not fully convert those not already fans of musical theatre, its charm and spectacle are undeniable. The film is at its best when it revels in this spectacle, prioritising audacious musical numbers over intricate plot development.
