Synopsis: Ladybug (Brad Pitt) is an unfortunate assassin who's determined to finish his job peacefully after too many targets gone wrong. On the world's fastest train, he is thrown into a collision course with lethal adversaries all with connected but conflicting objectives.
Review: A blazing action comedy that is gleefully bloated and ridiculous. Casual cinemagoers are sure to enjoy the ridiculous references to smart Japanese toilets and Thomas the Tank engine. Those seeking a more refined, or "thought-provoking" film may be less so. Bullet Train is certainly a mixed bag of gags, violence and bonkers cutaway scenes. That being said, these more unfocused moments do give light to the impressive, kinetic camera work of Jonathan Sela, who makes even the origin story of a bottle of Fiji water (yes, really) feel exciting. The chemistry between the ensemble cast is equally varied, but the moments between British hitmen duo, Lemon (Aaron Taylor-Johnson) and Clementine (Brian Tyree Henry) carry the weight of other lacklustre scenes. All these moving parts somewhat piece together in the context of the plot, but Bullet Train works better as a show reel of cinematography and fight scenes. Ride with caution.
