Director: Quentin Tarantino
Writer: Quentin Tarantino
Release Date: 14th August 2019
Hot Rating: 💥💥💥💥
In his ninth and supposedly penultimate feature, director Quentin Tarantino's pastiche-driven narrative style is stronger than ever. The pursuits of dwindling film stars, Rick (Leonardo DiCaprio) and Cliff (Brad Pitt), is woven into the factual events that took place across three days and one eventful night in Hollywood, 1969. Margot Robbie features as actress Sharon Tate, whose murder captured the zeitgeist of a turbulent New Hollywood era. Robbie captures the grace and humility of Tate's personality, whilst the male leads share a great chemistry in capturing the double-edged psyche of the developing film star. Tarantino's characteristic dialogue reigns supreme in the various encounters between characters, meaning that the film is at its best when these performances are at their most nuanced. Admittedly, these scenes require audiences to submit to the director's vision, yet within the film's conclusion, Tarantino rewards this obedience with some of his most ambitious drama to date.
